Regulatory Shock

Are you suffering from regulatory shock?   As wave after wave of regulations hit us from our local regulators, Europe and cross border legislation from other countries it is quite understandable if things become a little overwhelming.

Typical symptoms of shock include:

  • Rapid pulse
  • Rapid breathing
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Enlarged pupils
  • Weakness or fatigue
  • Dizziness or fainting
  • Changes in mental status or behaviour, such as anxiousness or agitation.

Are any of these symptoms familiar? Do you feel nauseous when the latest GDPR update hits your desk?   The shock is just a symptom of being in the Kubler-Ross’ grief cycle.  You are probably quite familiar with the grief cycle – we pretty well all go through it:

  • Denial – what’s this rubbish? It can’t possibly apply to us?
  • Anger – what on earth do these people think they are doing! This is nonsense!
  • Bargaining – can’t we get an exemption? Surely you can make some rule to leave us out of this?
  • Depression – think of all the work needed to get ready for this. It’s unfair. We’ll never be ready.
  • Acceptance – OK, we have to comply – let’s do this!

Has your compliance officer locked themselves in a small room, closed all the blinds and now refuses to answer the phone? Perhaps you feel nauseous when looking at the latest piece of legislation?   Does mere mention of the regulator leave you wanting to shout out and howl at the moon?

Active Group’s Compliance Counsellors can help you through the grief stages and move you to acceptance. We’ll take the denial, anger, bargaining and depression off your hands and help you get ready for the ever changing world of compliance. We understand, and most of all we are here to help.  Go on, give us a call.
